Animal Friends - VA

Animal Friends - VA is a foster-based, northern Virginia non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Most of our dogs come from a rural shelter in West Virginia, Animal Friends of Barbour County (www.afobcwv.org).

What makes our group special?

We started this rescue in September 2015 and help out other shelters as much as possible. We have given Animal Friends of Barbour County (AFOBC),  a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill shelter located in a rural area of West Virginia over $25,000 to support their mission in saving animals. They have so many awesome animals just waiting for their forever homes.  We are helping to broaden the audience for these wonderful animals by bringing them to Northern Virginia.

FOSTERS NEEDED!!!

Can you please open your hearts and home to foster? Animal Friends – VA needs foster homes for the animals we bring into our rescue.  We want to get as many dogs possible out of the shelters and into forever homes, but we can only do that if we have foster families.
If interested, please email us at va.animalfriends@gmail.com
Thank you!

Visit us every Sunday from 12:30 to 3:00 at the Potomac Mills PetSmart, 13337 Worth Ave Woodbridge VA 22192. We are also at the Lorton PetValu located at 9427 Lorton Market St, Lorton VA 22079 from noon - 2 on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

  Kinzey
Hi! My name is Kinzey, and I am a 6 year old American Foxhound mix. I was adopted 4 years ago, and my new mommy and I were absolutely crazy about each other. Sadly, my new mommy passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Now, I am back in a foster home, and while I really like it here, I would love to find my fur-ever home again. I am a silly, smart, loveable, playful cuddlebug. I like to play, but I am perfectly content to amuse myself while you do your thing, and I love to snuggle up next to you w...read more about Kinzey
  Zeus (Chi)
Zeus(Chi) came to us from a rural shelter in WV and we were told he bites faces. He cuddles under his foster mom's chin and she hasn't seen any aggressive behavior yet. He ignores the other dogs and cats and just wants to be with his people. He was adopted but returned for biting. He can be a sweet boy, he just needs someone that can work with the biting. Applications can be submitted from our website. Go to animalfriendsva.org then go to animals and scroll down to Zeus(Chi). His...read more about Zeus (Chi)
  Hawkeye
Hawkeye is a sweet boy looking for his forever home. He is a 3 year old Boxer mix that loves to play! He has not had any accidents in his foster home. He walks well on the leash. We pulled Hawkeye from a rural shelter in VA. He had been there for several months. We're thinking he was overlooked because he's a big black dog. It's so sad, he's a sweetheart and deserves a home of his own. Could that be yours? Hawkeye needs to be an only pet. He is not fond of a crate but has done...read more about Hawkeye
  Charlie
Charlie is a cute little guy who needs a quiet environment and people who are willing to give him time and their understanding and patience. He gets overwhelmed easily and shows it by growling at people. He needs people who understand that his aggressive behavior is the result of fear and not anything personal. For example, he joyfully wags his tail when his foster family comes home and has tolerated a few seconds of petting, but then he goes back to keeping his distance. He will also occasional...read more about Charlie
  Duke
Meet Duke. He's a very special boy. We got a call on 1/31/19 that a lady was moving and she couldn't take her dog so we helped her out. She asked if she could visit a week later and let us know that prior to surrendering him, he had gotten out and bit a kid on the way to school. It did not break the skin but he was deemed dangerous until court. The hearing was held the end of March and poor Duke was deemed dangerous so when he's adopted and we have faith there is a perfect home for h...read more about Duke
  Shiloh
Poor Shiloh has had such a rough life. He was hit by a car when he was younger (fully recovered) but he still acts out trying to catch cars as they pass by when he's out on walks. His owner recently died and then his brother was adopted. Shiloh is such a good boy once he knows you. We were told he doesn't like men but he has done ok with some. He does take a few minutes to warm up, once he does, he's a friend for life. He LOVES to play and has a lot of love to give a family...read more about Shiloh
  Annibel
We found out that Copper and Annibel's mom was killed in a horrible car accident and then thee dad ended up in jail. We had to help the family and offered to take the dogs. We'd like to place them together; however, they are in separate foster homes and seem to be doing fine. They are both very sweet pups with the typical hound behaviors. Annibel was hit by a car several years ago and had a rod in her leg. She's quite bow legged but gets along fine. They are both cat and dog friendly...read more about Annibel
  Mimi
Mimi is a sweet 10 y.o. girl whose backstory we will never know. All we can say is that she was covered in old scabs when we got her, which were probably from fleas and ticks. Her teeth are in prettybad condition, but we'll be taking care of her teeth soon. None of that bothers her though. She is the sweetest girl. From the very first time we held her, she snuggles by leaning in and resting her head against you. Her foster family loves how gentle she is. She is a great companion dog who ...read more about Mimi
